Dorthy Elaine Shookman's Obituary
Dorothy Elaine Shookman, 97, passed away at 3:15 A.M. on Wednesday (12-10-2025) in Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, IL.
Dorothy was born on June 13, 1928, in Greenup, IL, the daughter of Archie Lester Wood and Sylvia Grace Nees. She married Robert Lewis Shookman on July 6, 1947, in Covington, IN.
Dorothy worked at J.C. Penny’s in Decatur, IL, for many years as a bookkeeper. She also was a member of the Forsyth United Methodist Church and the American Business Women’s Association. She made wonderful homemade noodles from scratch, which up to this point no one has been able to replicate.
She is survived by her two sons: Dennis Robert Shookman and wife Kathy Capizzi-Shookman of Washington, IL, and Lewis Alan Shookman of Decatur, IL.; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, and one sister Nina Viehman of Buffalo Grove, IL.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, son Brian Keith Shookman, three brothers, two sisters, and one step-grandchild.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday (12-17-2025) at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A Graveside Service will follow the funeral at Graceland Cemetery.
