Douglas Sleade's Obituary
Douglas D. Sleade, 89, of Decatur, entered into eternal rest peacefully June 25, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Doug was born on March 12, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri to Elmer and Vera Sleade. He was a retired Methodist minister serving in various churches in Missouri. He graduated from Central Methodist University, and Garrett School of Theology. Following his pastoral career, he worked for Macon Resources as a vocational evaluator and as an expert witness for Social Security.
His love of music and ability to play multiple stringed instruments led to many performances and sing-alongs. He played the violin in the Decatur Symphony Orchestra, First Presbyterian Church String Band, banjo in a polka band, and played with other music groups over the years.
Doug was a proud Eagle Scout. He loved the Cardinals, was in the Golden K Kiwanis Club, and was in the founding group which started Old King’s Orchard Community Center. Throughout the years he was a community volunteer and blood donor. He was enthusiastic about slow pitch softball and played into his sixties, as a pitcher.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Pat; three daughters, Karen (Jesse) Henington, Laura Sleade (Ed Hawkes), and Cheryl (Corey) Brookhouzen. He was the cherished grandfather to Greg (Jennifer) Henington, Matt (Kaycie) Henington, Clint Henington, Lindsay Sleade; and great grandfather to: Jacob, Reese, Raelyn, Brennan, Sariah, Amira.
