Duane "Benny" Benedict's Obituary
LOVINGTON- Duane Earl 'Benny' Benedict, 69 of Lovington, passed away at 12:25 PM Saturday, January 1, 2011 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Service to celebrate Benny's life will be held at 10 AM Thursday, January 6, 2011 in the LaPlace United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 on Wednesday evening at the LaPlace United Methodist Church. Benny will be dressed in his blue jeans and the family requests casual attire for the services and visitation. Interment will be in Turner Cemetery, Lovington with Military Rites by the Lovington American Legion Post 429. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to the LaPlace United Methodist Church. Online condolences and memories can be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
Benny was born on May 28, 1941 in Osborneville, IL the son of Wesley Earl and Daphna (Elwood) Benedict. Benny married Carol Chenoweth on November 9, 1963 in Decatur. He served his country in the Army from 1966 to 1968. Benny retired as a boilermaker from A.E. Staley Manufacturing after 35 years of service. He then worked as a field tech for Buchanan Enterprises for many years. He was a member LaPlace United Methodist Church and the Lovington American Legion Post 429. Benny enjoyed hunting, meeting with the breakfast club and most of all being with his family. He was a devoted husband and father and cherished grandfather.
Surviving are his wife Carol of over 47 years of Lovington, daughter- Jody Benedict of College Station, TX, son- Jerod Benedict and his wife Christy of Lovington, sisters- Phyllis Grunert and husband Larry of Decatur and Patricia McClellan of Cerro Gordo, grandchildren- Tyler, Casey and Maggie Benedict, sisters and brothers-in-law- Ann and Ken Finke, Dick and Millie Chenoweth, Kathy and Larry Price, Den and Jan Chenoweth, Alice Lawyer and David Chenoweth, special friends- Kenny and Charlene Gilmore and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was greeted in Heaven by his parents and granddaughter- Piper, brother-in-law Donald McClellan and nephew- Steve Finke.
The family would like to give special thanks to St. John's Hospice and nurses Lynn, Deborah and Sandy, Cancer Care Specialists of Decatur and Dr's Estrada and Velasco, Chemotherapy nurses- Lynette and Jenny and staff and Radiation nurses Ann, Josh, Heidi and staff for all of the compassion and care given to Benny and his family during his illness.
