Duane Charles Lewis' Obituary
Duane Charles Lewis, 78, of Decatur, went home to be in the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, May 11th.
Services to celebrate Duane’s life will be 12:00 pm Thursday, May 15, 2014 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 10am-12:00 pm prior to services. Burial will be held immediately following the service at Nixon Township cemetery in Weldon.
Duane was born on Nov 28th, 1935 in Decatur, IL, the son of Morris Lance Lewis and Zella Marie Ramseyer Lewis. Duane graduated from Decatur High School in 1953. He married Norma Jean Lewis in 1958, and they made their home in Decatur for 55 years.
Duane worked for the Illinois Power Company for 44 years, retiring in 1997. He was passionate about helping others and faithfully participated and contributed to charitable organizations such as Meals On Wheels and ‘Pride Packages’, in support of servicemen overseas.
Duane was an active member of The New Beginnings Church of God in Decatur. He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and close friends. Some of the things he enjoyed the most were fishing, collecting antiques, and his wife’s apple dumplings.
Duane was a loving and caring husband and father who will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Duane is survived by his wife Norma and his children: Tom (Dina) Lewis, of Saint Louis, MO; Tim (Sachi) Lewis of Zion, IL; and Monica (Mark) Powell of Dalton City, IL. He also is survived by six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one niece: Andrew Powell, Caleb Powell, Hannah Lewis, Samuel Lewis, Donovan Lewis, Emma Lewis, Jack Powell and Lisa (Jerry) Pizzato. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Patricia (Frank) West of Bloomington, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to The Good Samaritan Inn or ST Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
