Earl Edwin Lugten's Obituary
Earl Edwin Lugten, 85, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday February 9, 2016, in Symphony of Decatur.
Earl was born March 12, 1930 in Holland, Michigan, the son of Peter and Jennie (Vredeveld) Lugten. He proudly served his country in the USAF during the Korean War. He married Pauline “Polly” Boulse on October 3, 1953, in Pueblo, Colorado. She preceded him in death November 8, 2015. Earl was the Operating Superintendent at Sears for many years.
Earl is survived by his four children, Lon Lugten of St. Petersburg, Florida, Bret (Tresa) Lugten of Tyler, Texas, Tod (Faith) Lugten of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Rhonda ”#42” Kupish of Decatur; ten grandchildren, Hollie (Troy) Peckert, Wesley(fiancé Megan Cuttill) Lugten, Corey Lugten, Nicole (Eric Turner) Kupish, Derrek (Scott Adkins) Kupish, Collin Kupish, Shelby Lugten, Jennie Lugten, Evan Lugten and Nicolas Lugten; and one great-grandson, Trey Peckert; one sister, Marilyn (Alex) Humbert of Ormond Beach, FL.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Polly and one brother, Harvey Lugten.
The family would like to thank the Staff at Symphony of Decatur Nursing Home, Dr. Dhirendra Patel, Jan Dial and the nurses and staff at DMH Hospice.
Funeral Liturgy to celebrate Earl’s life will be 1 PM Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday before the service at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association 2309 West White Oaks Drive, Springfield, IL 62704- In Memory of Earl Lugten for Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
