Earl Myers' Obituary
Earl W. Myers, 87, of Sullivan, IN, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 in his home in Sullivan, IN.
Earl was born on January 29, 1927 in Decatur, IL the son of Theo and Mae Myers (Wilbur). He worked as an iron worker, building structures for many building, including the Sears Tower in Chicago. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Shiners, and a member of the United Baptist Church, in Mt. Zion. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid coyote hunter. He also raised his own hunting dogs. He married Ruth Milstead on November 13, 1944 in Lenington, KY.
Surviving are his daughter Patricia Owings of Sullivan, IN; sisters, Evelyn (Bud) Hurley of Hammond, IL, Corrine Boyce of El Paso, TX; grandchildren Eddie, Jon, Patti, and Corrie; fifthteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great- grandchildren; brother-in-laws, Lee (Gladis) Milstead of Pennillrille, NY, Larry (Mary Lou) Milstead of Lake Orion, MI, Glenn (Pat) Milstead of Willmington, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son Earl “Butchie” Myers, grandson, Michael Witvoet, brothers, Paul Myers and Jr. Myers, sister, Pauline Johnson, and son-in-law Richard Owings.
Graveside service to celebrate Earl’s life will be 1 PM, Thursday, April 17, 2014 in Friends Creek Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard, and with his grandson Jon Witvoet officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Operation PUSH organization.
