To Eddie's family: I had the pleasure of working with Ed at Nelson Park Golf Course for the last few years it was open and we shared a love for the Chicago Cubs. We watched many a game together in the clubhouse there and I will always remember those happy times and his smiling face. A true gentleman and man of his word. I first met Ed Root when he was a sales rep for Canadian Club. He became a loyal customer of mine, and then later purchased the business from me. He had made several friends and continued serving them as he enjoyed the people he had met and rubbed shoulders with. Ed was a very loyal fan of the Cubs, and although I was a Cardinal fan, we enjoyed our rivalry as it was two "true" fans enjoying baseball. I would have loved to have known Eddie longer so I could have enjoyed his career, but the times we had were wonderful. He will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him.To Ed jr. and Karen, I send my condolences and respects, as I am now in a wheelchair and cannot travel away from home. I know Ed enjoyed a happy and full life. I am proud to call myself his friend. David L. Jordan

My Uncle Eddie:From as far back as I can remember in my life there were always 2 men that I considered my heros. One my father, a strong, hard working man and a great athlete and father/grandfather. He excelled at anything involving a ball, and my Uncle Eddie . . . not only was Uncle Eddie a great athlete, he was the only member of his family's generation to finish high school and college, to have a "professional" level job and the first to live the "american dream" in my young eyes.Uncle Eddie inspired me and I never questioned that I could be like him too.
