Edward Taylor Martin's Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Edward Taylor Martin, who left us on October 31, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on November 18, 1946, Ed lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and unwavering love for his family and friends. Known for his sharp wit and sarcastic humor, he had a way of bringing laughter and light to every gathering.
A proud Navy Veteran, Ed served his country from 1965 to 1971. Following his service, he built a career with Caterpillar, ultimately retiring from a company that held great meaning in his life. Beyond work, Ed shared his love of horses and the cowboy lifestyle with his family, embracing every aspect of the horse world—from breeding and training to showing. After hanging up his spurs, he found a new passion in golf, spending countless days on the greens with friends, always eager to try a new course.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Teresa Anne Martin, whom he married on April 15, 1976. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. His legacy lives on in his daughters Cheryl Lewis (Jason Lewis) of Cream Ridge, NJ, Sara Bostwick, Cherie McIntyre (Scott McIntyre), and Julie Lewis of Decatur, IL; his sister Jane Grotjan of Decatur, IL; his grandchildren Jaron, Kaylei, Zachary, Addison, and Jaxon; and his five great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Ed was predeceased in death by his father and mother, Ralph Merle Martin and Oraola Irene Henthorne-Martin, as well as his brother Ron, sister Judy, brother-in-law Roger Grotjan, and step-father, Amos Breuchaud. Though they have passed, their memories and love were always close to Ed’s heart.
In his later years, Ed enjoyed quiet mornings on his sun porch and took great pride in maintaining an immaculate yard. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, his passion for horses, his love of golf, and his ability to make everyone around him laugh.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024 at Graceland-Fairlawn, Decatur, IL from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
