Effie Mae Whiteman's Obituary
Effie Mae Whiteman, 91, died Monday at 11:27 a.m., September 18, 2017 at McKinley Court with family by her side. Effie was born on September 22, 1925 in South Carolina. She married Robert Whiteman 70 years ago on December 25, 1946.
She was a homemaker, life long square dancer and member of the Decatur Promenaders Club, she taught Sunday School for the preschool and kindergarten for nearly 40 years. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship at First Christian Church where she was a member for 68 years. She didn’t know a stranger and was accepting of everyone, you became part of her family. She truly loved all her family and the whole world.
She is survived by her husband, sister, 2 half-brothers, her children; Brenda (Terry) Jennings of Colorado, Donald (Debbie) Whiteman of Decatur, one sister, Lillian Evans of South Carolina, 7 grandchildren: Tina (Doug) Gist, Tammy (Brian) Dawson, Teresa Shepherd, Jeffrey (Corey) Whiteman David Whiteman, Jon (Janet) Whiteman , Mike (Barbara) Whiteman, and 9 great grandchildren 8 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: William Baxter and Milbrey Harmon Bradley, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Visitation at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 21, 2017, First Christian Church, 3350 N MacArthur Rd with Funeral Services following. Interment at Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur at 1:30 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Society.
