Eileen Ann Wetzel's Obituary
Decatur-Eileen Ann Wetzel, 82, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, February 05, 2013 in Imboden Creek Living Center.
Mrs. Wetzel was born November 7, 1930, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of John and Cleopha (Regensburger) O'Brien. She graduated from Richland Community College and Xavier Business College. Eileen was a longtime community volunteer involved with various PTA's, booster clubs, and coordinated the American Field Service Student Exchange Program. She was a founding member of GM Square Neighbors Association and Operation Enduring Support. She volunteered with several afterschool programs and she was previously employed as a teacher's aide with Decatur Public School District #61 retiring with over eleven years of service. Eileen was a member of Ss. James and Patrick Catholic Church and enjoyed knitting. She married David Paul Wetzel April 21, 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He preceded her in death October 12, 2012.
She leaves behind her children Peter J. (Robbie) Wetzel of Mt. Zion, Michael T. (Elizabeth) Wetzel of Decatur, Robert L. (Angela) Wetzel of Decatur, Christopher M. (Eleanor) Wetzel of Aurora, Elizabeth A. (Scott) Marlin of Potomac, Maryland, James P. (Cindy) Wetzel of Madison, Alabama, and Pauline M. (Jose) Zelaya of Albuquerque, New Mexico, daughter-in-law, Debbie Wetzel of Louisville, Kentucky, brother Gene O'Brien of Cincinnati, Ohio, twenty one grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, David P. Wetzel, Jr., infant son, Matthew Wetzel, two grandchildren, brother Tom O'Brien, and sister Mary Steggeman.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all of Eileen's caregivers for all of their compassionate care.
The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2013 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with a vigil prayer service at 2:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church, 742 E. Clay, with Rev. John Burnette, Celebrant. Burial with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will follow in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts may be made to the Eileen A. or David P. Wetzel Scholarship Fund at Richland Community College.
