Eleanor Jane Childress' Obituary
Eleanor Childress, 91 of Hampton, GA formerly of Decatur, Illinois went to be with the Lord at 12:00 a.m. on Monday March 4, 2013, in her home with her family at her side. She was born in Sullivan, Illinois on July 4th 1921, the daughter of William and Mary Ann Martin Williamson. Services celebrating the life of Eleanor Childress will be held on Friday, March 10, 2013 at Graceland-Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur, Illinois at 11 a.m. with visitation will be one hour before services. The interment will follow immediately at Graceland-Fairlawn Cemetery.
When she was a young girl she thought the fireworks were just for her birthday. She worked hard all her life as a housekeeper at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur. At the young age of 18 she married the only love of her life Richard Childress on April 21, 1939 in Decatur, Illinois. When she retired her and her sister's loved to travel and go to the River Boats. She was an avid lover of animals and they loved her right back. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to so many who loved her dearly. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Embree of Hampton, Georgia and her grandchildren, Tim Greitman and wife Kat of Covington, Georgia and Amy Adams and husband Seth of Hampton, Georgia. She is also survived by her 6 great grandchildren whom she absolutely adored, Dakota Golden, Aidan Greitman, Alexandria Golden, Mackenzie Golden, Trinitie Greitman, and Mikaela Greitman.
She also leaves many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews who adored her and loved her very much. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Childress, her parents William and Mary Ann Williamson, 6 sisters, 3 brothers, and her son-in-law Michael Embree.
We can all remember Eleanor for the loving, caring, fiesty woman that she was. She loved her family and told them often. She was never afraid to speak her mind and let you know what she thought about things. She will be deeply missed by many for many years to come.
