Elizabeth A. Hector's Obituary
Decatur-Elizabeth A. Hector, 92, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 in Evergreen Place Supportive Living with her family by her side.
Elizabeth was born December 19, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of Kenneth and Thelma (Nims) Groom. She proudly served as a WASP in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Elizabeth was previously employed with General Electric and Mutual of Omaha. She was a past member of Hopes Unlimited Club. She enjoyed line dancing, golfing, bowling, took hula lessons at the age of eighty and loved animals. Elizabeth married John E. Hector February 15, 1948 in Roseville, Michigan. He preceded her in death January 17, 2003.
Elizabeth leaves behind her son David Hector and wife Phyllis of Decatur, daughter Kim Hector of Decatur, grandchildren Brad Hector, Jeff Hector, Kevin Penny, Heather Penny, and Samantha McCoy, step-grandchildren William Major III, Roger Major, and Ricky Major, great-grandchildren America Hector, Joel Hector, Asjah Pirtle, Adrianah Hollgarth, and Isabella Hollgarth, and step-great-grandchildren Ashley Major, Jessica Major, Caleb Major, Joshua Major, and Emily Major.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Kenneth Groom, sister Patricia Powell, and daughter Cathy Hector.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Evergreen Place Supportive Living and Harbor Light Hospice for all of their loving care.
Graveside services to celebrate Elizabeth’s life will be 11:00 AM Friday, November 4, 2016 in the Veteran’s Section of Graceland Cemetery with military honors and “Flight Home” Ceremony. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday, November 3, 2016 in the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Hopes Unlimited.
