Elizabeth "Betty" Hendricks' Obituary
Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Devore Hendricks, 101, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in Urbana, IL, after a very full life.
She was born on August 25, 1923, in Decatur, IL. She was the only child of the late Earl Devore and Freda Deakins Devore. Betty married Captain Lane Hendricks on November 10, 1945, and cherished their time together until his death on active duty with the United states Air Force on April 9, 1952. She went on as a Gold Star Widow to raise their four sons as both provider and caregiver.
The Lord was a focal point in Betty’s life, and she was very involved at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Decatur.
She was an Avon representative for over 30 years. Betty started tap dancing at age five, which led to her being a tap performer and instructor. After her final performance at the age of 100, Betty continued teaching the Senior Youngsters until May of 2025. She also enjoyed quilting and going camping with her grandchildren; the time she spent with her family and dance girls was her greatest treasure.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by: three sons, Earl, Charley, and Lane; and one granddaughter, Samantha.
In addition to her son, Jim, Betty is survived by daughters-in-law, Kathy, Diane, and Brenda; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
A graveside service will be held for Betty at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur. At 4:00 PM that same day, a celebration of Betty’s life will take place at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 4135 Mt Auburn Rd, Decatur, IL 62521.
The family would like to thank the staff at John Warner Hospital ER and Carle CV ICU for the great care and compassion that was given to Betty.
