Elizabeth Matilda Mardis' Obituary
Elizabeth Matilda Mardis passed away on January 17, 2014 at 2:15 am. She was born February 27, 1944 in Lawrence County, Illinois to William Gerald and Floye June (Marx) Abell. They preceded her in death.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held on January 24, 2014 at South Shores Christian Church in Decatur, IL. Visitation begins at 6 pm with a short service at 7 pm. A second memorial service will be held at the Christian Church of Sumner (IL) on January 25, 2014 at 11 am. Interment will be at the Sumner City Cemetery.
Elizabeth married Charles Edward “Red” Mardis on January 28, 1984 in Decatur, IL. He survives. She married Frank Brown on February 17, 1963 in Sumner, IL. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1971. From this union were born two daughters: Karla Carlson of Olney, IL and Kara (Jeff) Krupinski of Malden, MO. They survive along with 6 grandchildren: Casi, Brandon, and Andrew Carlson, Zachary, Katherine, and Paige Krupinski, and one great-granddaughter, Triniti Carlson. Surviving siblings are G.P. “Bub” Abell, Glen (Carol) Abell, Randy (Violet) Abell, all of Sumner, IL, Annette (Troy) Riegel of Dwight, IL, and Candi (Randy) VonBehren of Blue Mound, IL. She is also survived by 22 nieces and nephews, 16 great nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great nieces and nephews. Her brother, William “Billy” Abell preceded her in death.
Elizabeth was a member of the Mound Road Christian Church in Decatur, IL. She enjoyed spending time with her family and taking pictures of them. She loved sewing, cross stitch, quilting, building with Legos, going to rummage sales, working jigsaw puzzles, and playing Scrabble, Yatzee, and Bingo.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bueno in Springfield and the DMH hospice and 4100 teams for the excellent care she received.
