Elizabeth H. Vance-Walser's Obituary
Elizabeth H. Vance-Walser, 100, of Decatur passed away at 4:13 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 in Aspen Ridge Care Center.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery with a 'Flight Home' ceremony.
Elizabeth was born February 3, 1912 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Herbert H. and Ida L. (Miller) Waller. She married Ted Vance in 1930. He passed away in 1948. She later married Chris Walser. He passed away in 1982.
She worked at High Flyer Kite Factory of Decatur in the 1930's, and then later enjoyed being a homemaker and a mother. She took care of her younger siblings when her parents passed away. She enjoyed both ballroom and square dancing, playing bingo, and she loved spending time at her retirement home in North Fort Myers, FL. Most of all she loved being with family, grandchildren and friends.
She leaves behind her son, Larry Vance and companion (Dee) of Denver, CO; daughter-in-law, Shirley Vance of Decatur; sister, Gloria Mendenall (Jack) of Decatur; grandchildren, Kim Snader (Jim) of Atlanta, GA; Dawn Feely (Mark) of Batavia, IL; Leslie Dudley of Cortland, IL; Ted Vance of Lehigh Acres, FL; Todd, Tom, and Tina Vance of Decatur; Tammy Lamson (Steve) of Castaic, CA; 12 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Jack Vance, parents, husbands, three brothers, and four sisters.
The family would like to give special thanks for all the loving care that she received at Aspen Ridge Care Center and thanks to the DMH Hospice Staff. Memorials can be made in her honor to Alzheimer's Association or Aspen Ridge Care Center.
