Ellen Kay Lawler-Zuber's Obituary
Ellen Kay Lawler-Zuber, 78, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away December 10, 2025, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Illinois.
Ellen was born in Benton, Illinois, on December 17, 1946, the daughter of Luther and Mary Kathryn (Pate) Lawler. She married Ron Zuber in October 2003 in Decatur.
Ellen was a factory worker for most of her life. At various times she also was a bartender/waitress and a home cleaner. She was an avid antique hunter, frequently in the good company of her sister Barb and her grandchildren . She had an exquisite eye for decor and loved helping tweak the seasonal decorations that her family members set out. Dinners at her home were cultured experiences, with nothing less than the best china, linen napkins, and crystal glassware. She enjoyed gardening, piddling, and taking care of her beloved cats. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Ellen is survived by her husband Ron Zuber of Decatur; sister Barbara Baum of Decatur; grandchildren Derek (Denise) Miller and Brianna Miller, both of Decatur; great-grandchildren Zion Miller, Luna Miller, and Marley Miller, all of Decatur; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Jeff Miller.
Services for Ellen will be held on Tuesday, December 23, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10am to 11am. Funeral service will take place at 11am. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association. Condolences may be shared with the family at https://www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
