Elmer Hicks' Obituary
Elmer Ray Hicks, 77, of Decatur, passed away peacefully at 10:45 a.m., Friday, November 23, 2018, at home with his loving wife and daughters by his side.
Elmer was born December 31, 1940, Nokomis, IL to Lester Alexander and Estelle LaVeda (Sanders) Hicks. He married Sandra Lynn True on November 16, 1957 in Decatur, IL. Elmer was a proud union brother of United Rubber Workers Local 713, retiring from Bridgestone Firestone after 25 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sandra; his two daughters, Denise (Tim) Cox of LeRoy, IL and Teri (Mike) Pape of Bloomington, IL; his grandson Josh (Nichole) Cox of LeRoy, IL; four granddaughters, Rachel (Stuart) Koerner of LeRoy, IL, Camilyn Pape of Decatur, IL, Marci Pape and Nikki Pape both of Bloomington, IL; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Midgie Weatherford of Litchfield, IL; several nieces and nephews; and his sweet dog, Molly.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to give special thanks to DMH Home Health Care nurses and staff, for their wonderful care.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Elmer Ray Hicks will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Gambrill, officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Harristown Cemetery. The family requests casual attire. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
