Emma Louise Johnson, 93, of Decatur, IL, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (06-07-2022) at 7:10 P.M. at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Emma was born on February 11, 1929 to the union of Earl J. and Sally Donna (Lewis) Simpson. She married her beloved husband, Willie James Johnson, on May 12, 1951 in Ripley, Mississippi. To that union they had 5 children. They remained happily together until his health failed. He departed this earth, and the love of his life on January 13, 1983.
Emma surrendered her life to the Lord in 1966 at the House of Faith under the ministry of Elder Fred Warren. She well served the Lord as head usher and was called upon to usher at many church events. Emma was an excellent cook, the list is too long to list them all, but banana pudding was one of her most requested dishes. In additional to all of that, she was a talented beautician. She was educated in cosmetology at the Modernistic School of Beauty Culture in 1973. She could press and curl like no other. She aided in getting many ready for church on Sunday. She had the gift of that talent from an early age, always helping her mother with her siblings. Emma had a green thumb as well. She had the gift to grow anything. She maintained vegetable and flower gardens at her home. People would often stop by just to admire them.
She is survived by her son: James T. Johnson and partner Kathy Ballard of Decatur, IL.; daughters: (Dora) Willie Hines and husband Wayne Hines of Decatur, IL, and Elaine Curry and husband Winston Curry of Decatur, IL.; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. brother: Roy Lee Simpson of Boliver, TN.; two sisters: Earnestine Cottrell of Humbolt, TN and Beatrice Cole of Jamaica, NY.
