Ernest Eichel's Obituary
Ernest Eichel, 97, of Decatur, passed away peacefully, Monday afternoon, October 26, 2015, in McKinley Court, surrounded by his family.
Ernest was born November 11, 1917 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany to Richard and Wilhelmina (Duddek) Eichel. He married Ann Besalski on March 1, 1941, in St. Charles, Missouri. She passed away July 12, 2010. He was a member of Moundford Free Methodist Church. He was an electrician for Caterpillar and mechanic on the side. There was not anything he couldn’t repair. He loved playing the violin.
He is survived by his son, Thomas (Carol) Eichel of Decatur; three daughters, Nancy (Jim) Nicholls of Decatur, Leah Moore of Decatur and Sharon Carnett of Alpharetta, GA; nine grandchildren, Greg, Christina, Brian, Andrew, Jim, Jeremy, Scarlett, Jordan and Jonah; eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann; three brothers, Fred, William and Walter Eichel; and one sister, Minnie Phillips.
Services to celebrate the life of Ernest Eichel will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday before the service. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Lake Helen Bible Camp – P.O. Box 140 N12864 Old 38 Rd, Wausaukee, WI 54177.
