Estalee Short's Obituary
Estalee Short of Oakley passed away Wednesday, September 7th, in her home with her daughter Cynthia Peck, and grandchildren, Jason Shurtz and Jen (Shurtz) Kusak by her side. She was born August 18, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, one of five children of Clarence Alva and Betty (Hutchison) Phelps.
The two most important things in Estalee’s life were her faith and her family. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Decatur, and often watched the sermons online when she was unable to attend in person. She loved her daughter and her grandkids more than life itself and will be greatly missed by them. She also loved to travel and was able to make a trip with her daughter to Italy, the last place on her bucket list, before her illness made travel impossible.
A private memorial service is being planned to celebrate Estalee’s life on earth, and her new life with her Lord and Savior in Heaven. In lieu of flowers the family asks that all donations be made to the Kerby Strong Foundation (http://www.kerbystrong.com) where 100% of the proceeds benefit patients of the Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois. Estalee’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the truly wonderful staff at Cancer Care Specialists. Dr. James Wade and the staff of the Infusion Lab showered Estalee with love and affection and always treated her with the utmost care throughout her long and hard fought battle with Cancer. The family would also like to express their gratitude to the DMH Hospice nurses and staff who provided such good care, always with grace and kindness, for Estalee during her few days. For that, her family is forever grateful.
The family of Estalee Short is being served by Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, 2091 N. Oakland Ave., Decatur, IL. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
