Esther Cobb's Obituary
Esther Lee Cobb, 81, of Decatur, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on February 25, 2024.
Esther, born December 21, 1942, in Tunica, MS, was the second-born child to the union of Chester and Helen (Haywood) Tinsley. The family later relocated to Carbondale, IL where Esther spent her childhood and adolescent years.
Esther graduated from Alexander County Central High School (Tamms, IL) in 1960. She united in Holy Matrimony with Melvin O. Penermon, in 1960. To this union two sons were born, Jeffery Undrae and Reginald Dion. The family relocated to Decatur, IL in 1965. Esther later married Robert Cobb, the love of her life, of whom she spent 15 blissful years with until his passing in 2003. Esther accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a member of Trinity CME Church, Decatur, IL.
Esther was employed at The Kite Factory of Decatur and later worked as a secretary at the Voice newspaper. She loved crafting, writing poetry, macrame, ceramics, interior decorating, and cooking. She would often be seen outside pruning her beautiful flower garden and profusion of plants. She loved the hearth and home and was skillful in decorating her house. Her home was always immaculate, Homes and Garden ready. She had a quiet sense of humor, a contagious laugh, but was quick to give a word of wisdom.
Esther was preceded in death by her father, Chester Tinsley; her mother, Helen Tinsley, stepmother, Velma Tinsley; sisters, Jean Esther Cade, and Shirley Liddell; brothers, Shawn and Douglas Tinsley, and Lawrence Westbrook.
Esther is survived by her sons; Jeffery Undrae Penermon and Reginald Dion Penermon, Decatur, IL; sisters, Ozzie Anuora, Mt. Zion, IL, Beverly and Phyllis Tinsley, Carbondale, IL; brothers, Chester (Vanessa) Tinsley, Joliet, IL, Kevin (Jeri) Tinsley, Carbondale, IL, Enos (Lilly) Strawls, Chicago, IL; special nephews, Terry Cade, Country Club Hills, IL and Sedric Cade, Las Vegas, NV; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Esther will be remembered for her caring and compassionate character, and the love she had for her family. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
