Eugene Macke's Obituary
Gene Macke, 90, of Decatur, passed away peacefully Friday, February 2, 2018, at Generations in McKinley Court.
He was born August 16, 1927 in Bloomington Wisconsin to Early and Mary (Smith) Macke. Gene grew up on the family farm, along with 1 brother (William) and 3 sisters (Marilyn, Joann, Mary). Gene and first wife Joann raised 1 son (Tom Macke). Gene and second wife Kay (Reynolds) were married on July 4 1966. Together they raised three sons.
He enjoyed watching baseball and a CUBS fan. He got to see the CUBS win the world series! Although most know Gene as very stubborn and not afraid to tell you his thoughts; he was also very generous of his time and money. He spent many weekends with his children taking them to places to ride dirtbikes / ATV’s and to many racing events around the midwest. He instilled work ethic in his children and taught them mechanics by pulling his children in when he worked on cars or dirtbikes.
He is survived by 3 children: Brad Macke, Barb Macke of Bloomington IL, Todd (Nikki) Macke of Decatur, Courtney (Stacy) Macke of Sylva NC. Ten grandchildren; Adam, Max, Blake, Brooke, Weston, Devon, Cameron, Allison, Steven, Tracey Jo. Two great grandchildren: Zoey LaPine, Tori Jolee
His warm heart and stubborn attitude will sorely be missed, but fondly remembered.
Services: Family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. and ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 9, at Graceland Fairlawn. Friends may make donations in lieu of flowers.
