Eugene H. Salefski's Obituary
Eugene Harry Salefski, 92, of Decatur, IL passed away December 13, 2018 at Hickory Point Christian Home in Forsyth, IL.
Eugene was born April 4, 1926 in Decatur, IL, the son of Harry and Emily (Brix) Salefski. He married Lenore Pianka on September 13, 1952 in Decatur, IL.
Eugene was a veteran of the USMC serving in the 2nd Marine Division during WWII at Okinawa and Saipan and later served as a drill instructor on the rifle range for a year at Camp Lejune, NC during the Korean War.
After his military service he worked and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad (formerly the Wabash Railroad) for over 40 years as a machinist and in supervision in Toledo, OH, Danville, IL, Chicago and Decatur.
Eugene was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He served as President of NAVARE and Railroad Retirees Club. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 105 and VFW Post 99.
Surviving are his wife, Lenore; son-in-law, Robert Harmon of South Elgin, IL; grandsons, Benjamin Harmon of Normal, IL, Zachary Harmon and wife Emily of Decatur, IL; great-granddaughters, Madalyn, Emma, Sophia and Grace Harmon of Normal, IL; great-grandson, Levi Harmon of Decatur, brother; Ervin Salefski and wife Marilois, of Decatur, IL and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Barbara Harmon and sister, Betty Salefski and brother, William Salefski.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday, December 17, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Star of Hope Mausoleum.
