Eugene L. Wilder's Obituary
Decatur- Eugene Leland Wilder's life journey ended April 7, 2012 at Aspen Ridge Care Center.
A service to celebrate the life of Gene will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. till the time of the service. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born January 16, 1930 in Staunton, Illinois to Kenneth and Marie Wilder. He served as a Corporal in the United States Air Force, married Carolyn in Litchfield, IL and they moved to Decatur. He worked at S.J. Smith, formerly D&R Welding Supply Company, for over 40 years before retirement. Eugene was a tireless worker often farming on weekends during the early years of marriage. He coached Little League and loved when former players would come up to him to say hello. Eugene also had a creative side, he played the guitar, harmonica and created art objects from brass. He was an avid hunter throughout his life and enjoyed any adventure. Most of all Eugene was a wonderful loving husband, Dad and Grandfather that will always be missed and admired by his family and friends.
Eugene met his wife Carolyn in 1952 and they both have enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 57 years. They have two sons, Todd (Ginger), Mackinaw, IL and Jerry, Moorpark, CA, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Eugene leaves his brothers Clarence in Edwardsville, IL and Maurice in Largo, FL.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane and sister Shirley.
