Eve Shade's Obituary
Eve Shade peacefully passed away in her sleep on 12/29/18. She was born on September 2, 1930 in Buffalo, NY. She graduated from West Virginia University in 1952 and worked for Procter & Gamble until she married Robert L. Shade in 1956. She lived in Decatur, Illinois for 45 years before moving to Temecula, California in 2002.
Eve was very active in the Decatur community throughout the years. She was involved in St. Johns Episcopal Church, Red Cross and Decatur Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She also worked with the March of Dimes, PTA, Co-founder and director for Call For Action at WDZ, trustee for Decatur Public Library, St. Mary’s Guild, American Heart Association, Illinois Community Education Assoc., and served on many boards; Decatur Area Arts Council, RSVP, Macon County Historical Society, Baby TALK and many other organizations that benefited the community. Some of the honors include; Women of Excellence, Those Who Excel, PTA, National Assoc. of Partners in Education and Baby TALK.
In 2002, Eve moved to Temecula, California. In Temecula, she was active in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Assistance League of Temecula Valley, Newcomers of Temecula Valley, WN Chapter of PEO and Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni Association. In 2013, she moved closer to family in Thousand Oaks, CA, living at The Reserve. She enjoyed being involved in all the activities and committees available. In September 2018, she moved to Clearwater At River Park in Oxnard, California where she was just beginning to make many new, fast friends. Her cheerful smile always brought people together to either work a puzzle or get together to play a game of “Hand and Foot”. Eve was larger than life and never met a stranger. Her extraordinary ability to make friends and BE a friend followed her on all of her adventures throughout life.
Eve is survived by her daughters, Robin Grossman (Scott) of Elk Grove, CA, Patty Shade (John Haine) of Davis, CA, Laura Niederhofer (Jim) of Woodbury, MN and Susan Crossan (Geordie) of West Lake Village, CA, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren her sister, Pat McCloskey (Terry) of Coon Rapids, MN and many nieces, nephews and very close friends throughout the country. Her husband Bob Shade preceded her in death in 1975 as well as her parents, Earl and Audrey Reese.
A memorial service will be held in Decatur, Illinois on Saturday, March 16th at 3:00 at St. Johns Episcopal Church, 130 Eldorado St, with a reception following in the Parish hall.
