Evelyn Matthews Babcock's Obituary
Evelyn Matthews Babcock, 95, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord Tuesday April 12, 2016, in McKinley Court with her family at her side.
Evelyn was born on November 30, 1920 in Decatur the daughter of Claude and Goldie (Haley) King. She was a member of Cross Pointe Community Church.
Evelyn worked as a restaurant manager and cook in Decatur in Decatur and Arizona for 40 years. She retired from Union Hills Country Club in Sun City, AZ. She married Robert Matthews on March 18, 1936. He preceded her in death. She later married Ben Babcock on August 1987. He preceded her in death while on vacation in Arizona in March 2003.
Surviving are her sons, Leon Matthews (Linda) of Decatur; Bill Matthews (Karen) of Decatur; step-daughters, Barbara Steward (Don) of Acworth, GA; Diane Quinne of Yuma, AZ. 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, 3 brothers, children, Kay DeVore, Rodney “Buzz” Matthews, and Nancy Caldwell, and one grandson.
She was Mom and Grandma to many. She was greatly loved and will be missed by family and friends.
The family will host a Celebration of Life 12 Noon Sunday, April 17, 2016 in Cross Pointe Community Church with Pastor Bob Teel officiating.Memorials are suggested to Cross Pointe Community Church, Decatur, IL.
