Evelyn Joan Taylor's Obituary
Evelyn J. Taylor, 89, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away November 27, 2025.
Evelyn was born in St. Elmo, Illinois, on August 5, 1936, the daughter of Dorse and Catherine (Watson) Rogers. She married John R. “Dick” Taylor on June 25, 1960, in Decatur.
Evelyn worked as an accounting clerk at Caterpillar. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She took part in the activities of the Mothers of Twins Club and the Caterpillar Retirees Club. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, sewing, and reading. She was glad to turn her car keys over to her children when they became old enough to take care of driving duties for her. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Dick of Decatur; daughters Michelle (Jay) Sauder of Roanoke, IL, Melissa (Steve) Rock of LeRoy, IL, and Megann (Merlin) White of Mt. Zion, IL; grandchildren Crystal Sauder, Gretchen (Daniel) Borth, Lane White, Bryce White, and Colin White; brother Jack (Marilyn) Rogers of Sullivan, IL; sisters Marilyn Haslett of Mattoon, IL, Leah Beth (Kent) Austin of Marion, IL, Lois (Ronnie) Gillespie of Forsyth, IL, and Cathy (Red) Flowers of St. Elmo, IL; sisters-in-law Linda Foley and Tammy Rogers; aunt Janice Niemeyer; uncle Max Watson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Melanie Beth Taylor, brothers Joe Rogers and Paul Rogers, and brother-in-law Leonard Haslett.
Visitation for Evelyn will be from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday, December 3 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10am on Thursday, December 4, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Decatur. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service.
