Florence Shaw Flenner's Obituary
Decatur – Florence Shaw Flenner, 97, of Decatur, IL, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018, in her home surrounded by family.
Florence was born January 2, 1921, in Crawford County IL, the daughter of Frank L. and Bertha A. (Rains) Shaw. She was a homemaker and member of the Elwin United Methodist Church. Florence married William Arvine Flenner on November 17, 1940, in her childhood Universalist Church in Hutsonville, IL. They moved to Decatur in 1941 when Arvine accepted a job with Illinois Bell. Arvine preceded her in death on February 6, 1989. Also preceding her in death were her brothers: Richard, Edward, John, Carl and Robert.
Florence was a sixty year member of Macon County Home Extension. She enjoyed special tours to Europe with Barb’s Travel Group; and her winters with her Grape Hammock family in Florida.
Surviving are her children: Judith A. (John) Norris of Decatur, IL, Gary A. (Chris) Flenner of Paducah, KY, and David W. (Kathy) Flenner of Dixon, IL; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; two step grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren and four step great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 1 pm until the service time of 2 PM at the Star of Hope Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Elwin United Methodist Church.
