Florence E. Lorton's Obituary
Florence E. Lorton of Decatur passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013, with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 2, 2013 with visitation one hour before the service at 10:00 AM. Pastor Russell Weise will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery Star of Hope Mausoleum.
Florence was born September 22, 1914 the daughter of Fred and Ethel (Baird) Kinney. She married William H. Lorton in Cowden, IL. He preceded her in death January of 2000.
Florence was employed and worked many years as the head housekeeper for the Holiday Inn when it was on Pershing Road, then it changed its name to Best Western, then Shelton Inn.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Florence was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Surviving is a daughter, Lois Garrett and husband (Donald) of Decatur, grandchildren, Diane Maddox and husband (Jeff) of Decatur, Steven Garrett and wife (Gail) of Illiopolis, IL, Julie Grace and husband (Kevin) of Gulf Breeze, Florida, six great-grandchildren Ross and Hannah Elliott, Stacey and Jessica Garrett and Justine and Spencer Grace, six great- great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Ada Kinney of Winter Haven, Florida, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Roger Kinney and sister Elfrieda Harris.
We want to thank Imboden Creek Living Center and the loving care the nurses gave to my mother.
She is with the lord now, but will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
