Hill, Forrest Wayne's Obituary
Forrest “Bud” Wayne Hill of Decatur, Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday November 7th, 2024, to join his wife, Janice Hill. They married on November 27th, 1971, and had 49 years of marriage.
Forrest was born August 14th, 1945, in Paris, Illinois. Forrest proudly served in the US Army from June of 1968 to June of 1970. He served in the Vietnam War from November 19th, 1968, through November 18th, 1969. Forrest received a Notional Defense Service Medal (honorable active service during a declared national emergency Decoration), a Vietnam Service Medal (US Military Decoration Award), a Vietnam Campaign Medal with device 60, 2 years overseas bars, and a Sharpshooter Badge with a Rifle Bar.
Forrest also worked for Firestone for 28 years. Following his early retirement, he worked for Bumper to Bumper of Decatur, Illinois and he served the Warrensburg school district community through bus driving for many years.
Forrest was a hardworking and loving husband, father, and PaPa. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife and all their friends many many moons ago. Post retirement he enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. If anyone knew Forrest, they knew he was stubborn as all get out. He believed drinking water would rust your pipes and survived strictly off Coke instead. Despite that, he found the greatest joy in helping those in need throughout his and Janice’s life.
Forrest was preceded in death by his wife Janice Hill, father Wayne Hill, Mother Wanda Hill, brother Steve Vollmer, father-in-law Charles Underwood, mother-in-law Bonnie Underwood, mother-in-law Louis Leigh, daughter Peggy Perry.
He is survived by his three sons: Bob Hill (Jeri), David Hill, Steven Hill (Tiffany), son-in-law: Jimmy Perry, two daughters: Lisa Farley and Brittney Farley, two brothers: David Hill and John Hill, two sisters: Bonnie Copland and Mary Martin Hill. He survived by 11 grandchildren: Chasity Winkleman (Lance), Cody McDermith (Molly), Kira Longcore, Preston Hill (Ashley), Loren Hill, Stefaun (Tyler) Hill, Sierra Hill, Jonathan Hill, Jamie Perry, Carmen Grayned, Chanel Woodland. He is also survived by 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and those he accepted in his life as family.
Visitation for Forrest will be from 5 to 7pm on Monday, November 18, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, November 19, also at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial in Graceland Cemetery with military rites will follow the service. Pallbearers will include Bob Hill, David Hill, Steven Hill, Stefaun (Tyler) Hill, Preston Hill, Jamie Perry, and Johnathan Hill.
