Decatur -Francis Patrick Kelly, 72, passed on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at his home.
Francis was born on April 4, 1940 in Waterford Island, Ireland to Francis Augustine and Margaret Kelly, and is survived by his wife, Patricia Kelly; sister, Ann Cowley of Liverpool; daughter, Tracey Kelly; son, Scott Kelly; grandsons, Adam Kelly and wife Sara Kelly; Peyton Kelly; and Shea Kelly; great-granddaughter, Lennon Kelly; along with family members, Terry Moore; Lori Hirstein Kelly and her son Bo Mellado; Stephanie Wilson and her daughter Hallie Wilson, and Kara Pittman;. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Tommy, Margaret and family; and all his loving cousins in Liverpool.
He was raised in Liverpool, where he was schooled. It was there that Francis met and married Patricia. He was an engineer in the Merchant Navy of the United Kingdom, until 1962, when he visited his aunt in Staten Island and decided to move his family to America. Francis and Patricia became natural citizens in 1976, the nation’s bicentennial.
Through their years in the states, they lived in Boston, MA, Daytona Beach, FL, Belleville, and Decatur.
He became a journeyman pipe fitter out of Local 597 in Chicago, and worked on the construction of both the Baldwin Power Plant in Redbud and the Clinton Power Plant in Clinton. He was very devoted to his family, and was incredibly loved by everyone who met him.
A memorial service celebrating Francis' life will be 2 pm Saturday, April 14, 2012 in Moran & Goebel funeral Home, 2801 N. Monroe Street, Decatur. Visitation will be one hour prior to service in the funeral home. Gifts in his memory can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
