Dear Suzanne,I remember when I worked at St. Mary's Hospital with you how you talked about your husband. He was the one who did the grocery shopping and you said he stocked up and you had a full pantry of food.One morning as I was driving to work listening to the radio the announcer said: "Today is Fred Heinkle's birthday; be sure to stop in and wish him Happy Birthday."My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.Shirley Blickensderfer

Suzanne, Karen & Kathy I am so sorry for your loss Fred was truly one of the funniest guys I have ever met. We spent a lot of time together in the pharmacy and he always had me laughing. His love for his family was always evident. I can recall lots of stories about his girls and how proud he was of them. He loved Field Marshall and The U of I Chief. Freddie was an excellent pharmacist who had common sense and compassion. Every other Saturday we worked together for years at about 2pm you could count on Charlie coming in to visit with Freddie. These two guys outwardly didn't have much in common but Freddie always took time to sit in the waiting chairs and visit. Charlie was a widow, retired and lonely and Freddie took time to be a friend to a guy who really needed a friend. My oldest son is left handed like Freddie and when he went to kindergarten Freddie bought him really nice left handed scissors, that he used all thru grade school. Freddie was truly "The Great".

I have such fond memories of Fred. My parents were his clients for years. To him they were more than customers. He treated them like friends. He knew our family history who got married, who graduated from college and always inquired how we were doing. In later years after as my parents aged and later died if I was in the store Fred continued to check on our welfare. He had a great smile and a wonderful laugh. He will be missed.
I knew Fred from going to Osco/CVS, he was always happy with ties or suspenders to mark the different occasions. I'm sorry to hear this but I hope he had a wonderful retirement.

Fred and I go back to when he and I both worked at the packing plant as general maintenance and cleanup. We laughed as much as we worked together and I have always had many good memories of him. Our friendship continued until I moved away from Decatur 15 years ago. He was the pharmacist that I always took my prescriptions to just so we could add a few more laughs to our life.
