FORSYTH- G. Wesley Gardner, 84 of Forsyth, passed away unexpectedly at 11:49 pm on Sunday, September 12, 2010.
Services to celebrate Wesley's life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, September 17, 2010 in the chapel of Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service. Interment with full military rites will be conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard at the Maroa Cemetery, concluded by the 'Flight Home' Ceremony. Memorials are suggested to the Warrensburg United Methodist Church or to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Wesley was born on September 19, 1925 in Maroa, a son of Alva E. and Eunice W. (Wentworth) Gardner. He married Mary Alice Current on November 23, 1947 in the Forsyth United Methodist Church. Wesley served his country in the Army during WW II serving as an MP and in the infantry. He retired from farming after 48 years in 1992. He then worked part time for Busey Bank and for the last six years as a funeral assistant at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. He was a good Christian man and a member of the Warrensburg United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his loving wife Mary of almost 63 years, children- Jane Ellen Hamilton and her husband Carl of Decatur, Judith Ann Gardner of Decatur, and James L. Gardner of Bozeman, MT., sister- Norabel Baker and her husband Bill of Cerro Gordo, three grandchildren- Robin Hamilton and Tim, Tina Hartwig and her husband Paul, Jarrod Hamilton and his wife Jami, and two great grandchildren Hunter Wesley Hartwig and Mikayla Marie Craw, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Herman.
Wesley was a devoted husband and father and a beloved and cherished grandfather and great grandfather. He was very proud to be the patriarch of the Gardner family. Wesley was always willing to help others and had the gift to tell stories. He was a comfort to his family and friends and all those whose lives he truly touched and he will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
