Gail Havener's Obituary
Gail Ann (Alsup, Dove) Havener, 67 of Paris was blessed with peace and comfort until she was called to her heavenly home by the Lord at 4:10pm on Monday February 13, 2023, at Marshall Rehab and Nursing in Marshall, IL.
Visitation will be at Graceland Fairlawn in Decatur, Illinois on Saturday February 18, 2023, from 2pm-4pm with funeral services to follow.
Gail was born June 13, 1955, in Decatur, IL to Robert Edward (Soupy) Alsup and Betty Jean Scroggins.
Gail leaves behind her daughter MaryAnn Havener (Jordan) Stallings of Paris, ex-husband Gary Havener of Paris, ex-husband Gerald Dove of Decatur, brothers Gerald Alsup of Decatur, Rick (Faith) Alsup of Las Vegas, NV, Tom (Nu) Alsup of Springfield, IL, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gail grew up in Decatur and attended Eisenhower High School. As a young woman, she loved singing in the choir, cosmetology, and baking brownies with her best friend Sandra Kay. As an adult, she loved traveling, Motown music, Gunsmoke, shopping, and collecting snowmen, baskets, roosters, birds, and Winnie the Pooh items.
Gail devoted her life to taking care of others through her service as an amazing CNA for forty years. During this time, she worked countless hours, and various shifts required of the job. It was because of her upbringing that she exhibited her great work ethic and care for her patients, and led as an example for her co-workers, and daughter, that no matter what the job may be, whether big or small, time and effort had to be put in, so that the end result was of the finest quality and standard. She spent her career at Fairhavens Christian Nursing Home and Decatur Memorial Hospital in the Cardiac Care Unit.
As her health concerns increased, Gail moved to Paris, IL in February of 2021 to be closer to her children and grandpuppies. She started her new chapter in life, at the new Tiger Senior Apartments, converted from the old Paris High School. Here she established some very loving friendships. Gail also took the opportunity to embark on the most amazing adventures, flying to Las Vegas to see loved ones, seeing the Pacific Ocean, traveling to Zion & Bryce Canyon National Parks and taking her bucket list trip to Alaska where she saw glaciers, Mt. McKinley, moose, sled dogs, swam in hot springs, and fed Santa’s Reindeer at the North Pole.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Curtis William Havener, sister Edna May Carter, and brother Bill Alsup.
