Garner A. Portlock's Obituary
Mason City-Garner A. Portlock, 94, of Mason City formerly of Decatur, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Mason City Area Nursing Home.
He was born November 14, 1918 in Kingston, Missouri, the son of Roy William and Lorene Emilene (Scott) Portlock. He was previously employed as an engineer with the B&O which became the CSX Railroad retiring after thirty-eight years of service. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Decatur. He enjoyed antique cars, volunteered as a mechanic at the Monticello Railroad Museum, and could fix anything. He married Ethel M. Louder January 16, 1940 in Hamilton Missouri. They shared over seventy-three years together.
He leaves behind his wife Ethel of Mason City, daughters Judith Auxier and husband Thomas of Mason City, Donna Higgins and husband Patrick of Chillicothe, Ohio, sister Lois Weed of Palmer Alaska, grandchildren Sherry Cookson and husband Roger, Laura McAden, John Higgins and wife Cheryl, Rebecca Fouts and husband Sean, Teresa Campbell,and Tricia Francis, great-grandchildren Amanda, Melissa, Michelle, Taylor, Christian, Abraham, Julia, Margaret, Veronica, Kateri, Karenda, Mark, Emma, and Anna, and great-great-grandsons Craig, Ryan, and Logan.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, brother Milton Portlock, and sister June Bridges.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Mason City Area Nursing Home for all of their loving care.
Services to celebrate Garner's life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Central Baptist Church or Mason City Area Nursing Home.
