Decatur-Gary Allen Cummings, 52, of Decatur, passed away at 10:05 am Sunday, April 5, 2009 in his residence.
Services to celebrate Gary’s life will be 6:00 pm Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the First United Congregational Church of Christ, 3465 N. MacArthur, with Pastor David Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Wednesday at the church. Interment with “Flight Home” ceremonies will be 9:00 am Thursday, April 9, 2009 in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First United Congregation Church of Christ Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements. Gary was born January 10, 1957 in Decatur the son of Clarence “Al” and Betty (Zech) Cummings. He was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School class of 1975. Gary was employed at Caterpillar as an auditor. He enjoyed repairing vehicles, lawn mowers, or whatever he found to work on. He loved his dog and cat. Gary was always willing to help others. He had a great heart and will be greatly missed.
He leaves behind his mother Betty Cummings of Decatur, one brother Jerry L. Cummings of Decatur, two sisters Debbie (Lee) Fleming of Forsyth and Linda (Gary) Buenting of Decatur, uncle Ned (Sandy) Cummings of Decatur and uncle Earl Zech (Melody of North Freedom, WI, nieces and nephews Jessie Workman of Decatur, Jenny Peck and husband Michael of Lovington, Cindy Fleming of Argenta, Tina Eades and husband Paul of Argenta, LeeAndrew Fleming of Chicago, Danielle Buenting of Decatur, Elizabeth Buenting of Decatur, Hannah Buenting of Decatur, and Nathan Smith of Deland, great-nieces and nephews Brianna Workman, Colton Lockwood, Tyler White, Trevor Webb, and PJ Eades and numerous cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents, father and sister Diane Smith.
