Gary Allen Fear's Obituary
Decatur – Gary Allen Fear, 72, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 9:30 pm on Thursday, June 4, 2015, in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Gary was born April 24, 1943 in Decatur, IL, the son of Bill and Lola (McCauley) Fear. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1962, of which he loved his whole high school experience. Gary had two daughters (Tiffany and Deborah), by a previous marriage, Gary was married for 33 years to his current wife, Ruby Fear with whom he had one step-daughter (Tina).
He had an exciting career and enjoyed each step in his life. He worked for Rath Packing Company as a sales representative and in 1972 was named to the Rath Packing Company Arrow-Head Advisory Council. He enjoyed the job but always felt there was something new to try. He worked with his father at Logan Motor Sales and in 1978 he went to work for Procter & Gamble in the soap division. He was promoted to Unit Sales Manager in 1980 of which he was extremely proud of his job and of the people he had the pleasure of working with. In May 2004, he and his wife (Ruby) became the owners of G&R Properties, Decatur, IL. He continued to have a big desire to meet people so he went to work for Trinity in Taylorville, IL, before he took a job at Douglas in Clinton, IL, of which he was really enjoying the job and the people.
Gary enjoyed hunting and riding horses with his brother-in-law (Gene), he enjoyed playing soft-ball with the Killer “B’s”, he loved to do landscaping and loved to watch things come to life. Gary loved to golf with anyone who wanted to be in the win column and was looking forward to his golf game with his grandson (Dillon) but he took sick before this game could take place. He was also a die-hard CUB fan all of his adult life. He was one of those fans who never gave up and would always say “wait until next year”. Gary visited all but two national ball parks with his grandsons in the U.S. and Canada. He enjoyed traveling to Colorado to see his grandchildren and watch their sporting events.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby; his daughters: Tiffany (Eric) Harris and Deborah (Craig) Hoven; step-daughter, Tina Blankenship. He is also survived by his grandchildren whom he was very proud of Brandon Terry, Blake Hammond, Dillon Sanderfield, Lexi Hoven, Jordan Kuizinas, Nathan Harris, Jillian Blankenship, Zach Harris, Mckenna Hoven, and Grant Hoven. Jace Terry his great- grandson who was the light of his day. His siblings: Bill Fear, Jr., Carol Ann Loy, and Mark Fear.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father and by his many aunts and uncles.
The family would like to give thanks to the wonderful doctors who attended to him over the past three weeks; we would also like to give special thanks for the wonderful, caring staff of St. Mary’s Hospital. They ensured his last days were filled with exceptional compassionate care. We will be eternally grateful to the 4th floor, 6th floor and ICU nurses and techs.
Services to celebrate his life will be 1 pm, Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 to 7 pm in the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or American Heart Association.
