George "Dwayne" Whitfield's Obituary
DECATUR – George “Dwayne” Whitfield, born in Des Moines IA, lived in Decatur, IL, passed away peacefully at home August 13, 2014 in the company of his sons. He was devoted to his wife and family for 83 years.
Graveside services to celebrate George’s life will be 10 AM Saturday, August 16, 2014 in Graceland Cemetery with Pastor Wray Offermann officiating.
Dwayne Whitfield graduated from East High School (class of 1949) in Des Moines, IA., and then was married to Joanne Whitfield for 62 wonderful years. Dwayne worked at Firestone in Iowa and Illinois for a total of 40 years and in his free time enjoyed boating, tournament skiing, performing in water ski shows, bowling, repairing boat motors, building a 1923 T Street Rod, working on his wooden inboard ski boat, fishing, and gardening. Dwayne will be remembered for his generosity, his mechanical ability, and for designing the first radial Indy racing tire drum.
Dwayne was preceded in death by his loving wife Joanne, William (Elizabeth) Whitfield, Robert (and Linda) Schreiner, Beatrice Crank, Nancy Sobel.
Surviving are his children Craig (Gail) Whitfield, Stuart (Janet) Whitfield, Brian (Deb) Whitfield, and Jeff (Jean) Whitfield, extended family Lynn (Terry) Corley, Martha May Powell, Marcia Joanne Powell; Gary (Sue) Powell, Yolanda (Ken) Powell; Grandchildren Steve (Laura) Whitfield of Brownsburg, Chris Whitfield, Lisa Jo (Joey) Webb, Holly (Jason) Henderson, Lisa M (Bryan) Miloser, Brandon (Joni Hayes) Whitfield, Lindsey Whitfield, Danielle Corley, Michelle Corley, Katie Corley. Great Grandchildren Gavin, Megan, Karlee, Logan, Brynlee, Dakota, Whitlee.
