George S. Edwards' Obituary
Decatur-George S. 'Buzz' Edwards, 90 of Decatur, passed away 3:15 am Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at McKinley Court Care Centre.
Memorial services to celebrate George's life will be 11:00 am Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Services will conclude with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard followed by the 'Flight Home' ceremony. George was born March 14, 1920 in Argenta the son of James and Alice (Miller) Edwards. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII from 1943 ' 1946. George married Jeannine Winters on April 9, 1960 in St. Louis, Mo where they lived for 30 years before returning to Decatur. He retired in 1986 from Marquette Tool & Die in St. Louis, MO where he was the plant superintendent. George was also the owner of The Copper Door and Pappy's in St. Louis. After moving to Decatur, he worked as a consultant with Midwest Electronics in Ellsworth, IL until September 1, 2007. George was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Elks #401, a past commander of the American Legion Post 186, a past president of the Eagles #501 and he was currently their chaplain.
The family suggest memorials be directed to any of the above mentioned organizations.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Jeannine, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage earlier this year. George is survived also by his daughter Julie Sowa of Belmont, CA, four granddaughters Dawn Ward, Allison Dodrill, Leslie Burke, and Sara Sowa, and nine great grandchildren, his brother Burl (Mary Ann) Edwards of Decatur, his sister Norma Jean Blaase of Forsyth, sister-in-law Marge Winters of Warrensburg, sister-in-law Velma Edwards of Argenta, several nieces and nephews, and his faithful companion Remy.
George was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
