George Michael "Mike" Wilcockson's Obituary
Decatur-George Michael “Mike” Wilcockson, 63, of Decatur died Thursday, February 6, at Decatur Memorial Hospital after having suffered a heart attack.
Mike was born August 7, 1950 in Decatur to George Milliiken Wilcockson and Cecilia Ruth Wilcockson. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He graduated from Millikin University in Decatur. Uppermost in Michael’s mind was a desire to serve the Lord. To that end he spent some time at the Maryknoll monastery near St. Louis, where he did an outreach ministry. Mike worked at F. W. Means in Decatur. He used his musical talents to play guitar at Masses at St. Thomas. Michael will always be remembered for having a gentle soul and a kind heart.
Mike leaves behind his brothers: William (Janey) of Dekalb, Thomas of Decatur, Daniel of Strasburg, Virginia, Joseph of Decatur, John (Sonia) of Rochelle, Virginia.
Mike is reunited in Heaven with his parents.
Memorial Mass to celebrate Mike’s life will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2670 N. Edward St. Decatur, Illinois, with Rev. Rick Weltin, Celebrant. Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be 12 noon Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in Graceland Cemetery.
