George Henry Mulligan V's Obituary
George Henry Mulligan V, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away April 15, 2025, in his home, surrounded by his family.
George was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 20, 1935, the son of George Henry Mulligan IV and Esther Victoria (Swanson) Mulligan. George earned his bachelor's degree at Millikin University in 1957 and became a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon during his time there. He married Phyllis Ann Bender on June 1, 1982, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He worked as an administrator in the insurance & accounting industry. George was a quiet man who greatly enjoyed wildlife. He was dedicated to feeding the birds daily, a task that Phyllis now does in his memory. In his spare time, he was an avid reader.
George is survived by his wife Phyllis; sons George Henry Mulligan VI (Susan) of Ventura, CA, Richard David Mulligan (Mary) of Ivesdale, IL, and Jonathan Andrew Mulligan (Kirsten) of Naperville, IL; grandchildren Amanda Bar, Sharon Kramer, Karen Mulligan, Richard Mulligan II, Jonathan Mulligan, Elise Mulligan, Luke Mulligan, and Nathan Mulligan; great-grandchildren Oliva, Elsa, and Royce; and niece Marilyn Monaghan (Joel). He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home is providing cremation services for George. In honor of George’s wishes, no public services will be held. Memorials may be directed to Millikin University in Decatur. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
