George J. Rubenacker's Obituary
Decatur – George Rubenacker, 95, of Decatur passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.
George was born March 13, 1921, in Piopolis, IL, the son of John William and Margaret (Girard) Rubenacker. He farmed with his father until he was inducted to the Army in 1942. He served with U.S. Medical Corp, 184th Station Hospital at Ft. Greely, Kodiak Island, AK, until May 1945. On September 6, 1948, George married Erma Engel at St. John the Baptist Church, Piopolis, IL.
In 1951 George & Erma moved to Decatur, IL. There George worked for A.E. Staley CO. for 36 years. George & Erma are charter members of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a long and dedicated parishioner. He loved his wife, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. George loved to do wood work, especially on his home. He was a devoted St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan all his life.
Surviving is his wife, Erma; his children: Larry (Maggie) Rubenacker of Canton, MA, Barbara (Frank) Headington of Neenah, WI, Mary Langan (Mike) Powaga of River Grove, IL, and Thomas (Mary Rose) Rubenacker of Wheaton, IL. There are 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Lawrence, Leo and Bill; sisters: Emma and Marie; and one grandson, Anton Rubenacker.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate George’s life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in Holy Family Catholic Church, Very Reverend Joseph M. Molloy, V.F., celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before the mass in the church. Entombment will follow in Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or School.
