George V. Shindler's Obituary
George V. Shindler, 86, died on October 9th, 2025 in Mesa, AZ.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 8th at 11:00am at Graceland-Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur, IL with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Moundford Free Methodist Church, Decatur, IL or Journey of Grace Church of the Nazarene, Mesa AZ.
George was born on October 1, 1939, in Virginia, MN to George and Vlasta Shindler. He married Karen A Nelson in 1961 and they lived in Minneapolis and Bloomington, MN before moving to Decatur, IL in 1969.
George worked for Archer Daniels Midland Co. for 44 years and held a number of positions in Information Technology before retiring in 2003. During retirement George and Karen enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spent many winters in Arizona, making a permanent move to Mesa, AZ in 2016.
George was an avid photographer, woodworker, gardener, and Bible teacher who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an active member of the Moundford Free Methodist Church in Decatur, IL and Journey of Grace Church of the Nazarene in Mesa, AZ.
George is survived by wife Karen; son Michael Shindler (Jeanne) and daughter Wendy Gomez (Roy); sisters Phyllis Holliday (Bill) and Debra Brown-Rakola; 4 grandchildren; brother-in-law Del Winkle; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George J and Vlasta M. Shindler; brother Louis, sister Patricia Johnson (Brian) and sister Vera Winkle.
