Georgene Annette Voorhees' Obituary
On July 16, 2024, Georgene Annette Voorhees, 75, passed into the arms of Jesus after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
She spent her last days on the farm in Maroa, IL surrounded by family. Georgene, the daughter of Margaret and Robert Davis, was raised in Phillipsburg, NJ. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School. While in school she met the love of her life, Bill Voorhees, through her classmate and future sister-in-law, Sue. Georgene and Bill were married in 1968 and started their family and farming adventure. They were blessed with three children, Bill, Natalie and Tara. Georgene was an active participant in farm life in New Jersey, driving equipment, picking rocks and wrangling kids. She was a loving mother who coached softball and taught Sunday School. In 1987, Georgene and Bill took a leap of faith, moving their farm to Maroa, IL. She quickly became active in the community, joining Garden Club, Card Clubs, a bowling team, PEO, driving for Meals on Wheels among other things. She formed countless friendships with her outgoing nature and smile. Georgene was blessed to have all of her children and their families reside in the area in recent years. She loved watching her seven grandchildren play sports, dance, perform and mature. She hosted countless family dinners on the farm and loved when family and friends visited in Florida. Her faith was an integral part of who Georgene was. In New Jersey, she attended Greenwich Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and elder. Upon moving to Illinois, Georgene joined Grace United Methodist where she sang in choir, volunteered, was a Stephen Minister and served on many committees. In the winters she was a regular attendee of Harvest Methodist in Bradenton, FL. Recently, Georgene found a new church home at First Christian Church in Decatur, IL where she enjoyed the music and sermons.
Georgene is survived by her loving husband, Bill, son Bill (Jennifer) Voorhees, daughter Natalie (Dennis)Toalson, daughter Tara Voorhees, grandchildren Haley, Kaitlynn and Addison Voorhees, Anna Toalson, Joseph, Kylie and Sydney (Voorhees) Pottala, sisters Kathleen (Jimmy)Young, Coleen (Rich) Koch, Marleen (Jeff) Napolitano, sister-in-law Sue (Jay) Rutan and numerous nieces and nephews.
