Georgia Lee Carter's Obituary
Georgia Lee Carter was a beloved and caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on Monday, March 25, 2024 at the age of 89.
She was born to Julious Sessum and Charles Locke on December 9, 1934 in Lula, Mississippi and grew up in Paducah, Kentucky. During her early adult years, she married W.L. Carter. Together they had six children: Phillip, Wallace, Francine, Rhonda, Monique, and Bryan. Her family relocated to Decatur, Illinois where she resided throughout her life and retired as a Health Care Aide.
Georgia was an avid reader of magazines and books, most notably the Bible. She enjoyed having spirited discussions on Scripture meanings and why her interpretations were always right. She loved shopping and going to malls with her daughter and looked forward to their yearly Christmas shopping trips.
Georgia was a constant friend who always made time to visit her friends. She also made a point to regularly check in on those who were confined, selflessly supporting and lending a helping hand. If she couldn’t drop by during the week, her friends would call and ask, “Where are you? Are you coming over today?” She loved traveling to Kentucky to visit her sisters and brothers, and continued to be spry and active well into her later years.
Georgia’s presence and zest for life will forever be missed. Georgia will forever be loved.
“What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes part of us.” —Helen Keller
