Gerald Ernest Huck, Age 92, October 18,1932 – January 14, 2025
Gerald Huck died on January 14, 2025, in Decatur, IL. at the age of 92. The oldest child of Marie and Richard Huck, Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother Donald. Also predeceasing Gerald was his wonderful wife of 61 years, Rita Rose Huck.
Born in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri on October 18, 1932, Gerald joined the Army after high school graduation and served in the Korean War. He married Rita in 1957 and graduated college in 1962 with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The University of Missouri School of Mines & Metallurgy.
Gerald and Rita moved to Decatur in June 1962 when he went to work for Illinois Power Company. Upon his retirement from Illinois Power Company in 1989, Gerald and Rita spent many years traveling the world on cruises and wintering in Bradenton, Florida. In addition to being a Master Bridge player, he was an avid crappie fisherman and particularly enjoyed his annual fishing trip to Canada. Gerald also loved to golf in his early years of retirement and always watched his beloved St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
Gerald is remembered for his many years of service to Junior Achievement, Toastmasters International, and Red Cross, where he served as Executive Director of the Decatur Red Cross. In addition to the many charitable organizations he served, Gerald served as Chairman of the Mid America Engineering Committee and as Chairman of the National Electric Reliability Council overseeing the reliability of the United States national electricity grid.
Surviving Gerald is his brother Urban "Casey" Huck, and his children Mark S. Huck (Cindy) of Lee’s Summit, MO., Julianna Huck of Champaign, IL., Jeffrey Huck (Heidi) of Rolling Meadows, IL., Gregory Huck (Linda) of Decatur, IL., his grandchildren, Courtney Huck, Griffin Huck, Noah Huck, Lexie Huck, and Jackson Huck and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Gerald Huck will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Graceland-Fairlawn Funeral Home, 2091 N. Oakland, Decatur, IL. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:30 AM at the same location. The burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials honoring Gerald may be made to St. Teresa High School, 2710 N. Water Street, Decatur, IL 62526.
