Gerald L. "Jerry" Markwell's Obituary
Decatur – Gerald L. “Jerry” Markwell, 79, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at his home.
Jerry was born February 25, 1937, in Decatur, the son of Chester and Dorothy (Ping) Markwell. He was a self-employed painter and was married to Shirley (Pierce) Markwell for 60 yrs.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Shirley of Decatur; daughters: Sheri (Bruce) Hartsook, Lori (Mark) Weatherford and Diane (Danny) Waldrop; grandsons: Jeremy (Amy) Bretz, Brandon (Jen) Dummermuth, Jake and Eric Weatherford and Tim (Maggi) Markwell; great-grandchildren: Jaren and Kadric Bretz, Coledon and Penelope Dummermuth, Faye Waldrop and Hudson Markwell; sister, Marilyn Markwell; brothers: Tom (Sherry) Markwell and Don (Judy) Markwell; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family service is planned. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Jerry adored all of his family and leaves an emptiness in the hearts of each of them. He was an avid Cubs fan his entire life and was thrilled to see them win the World Series in 2016.
