Gertrude "Trudy" Elizabeth Reed's Obituary
Gertrude “Trudy” Elizabeth Reed, 77, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side.
Trudy was born August 31, 1938, in Decatur, to Paul Eugene and Olive Fern (Cox) Meredith. She married Nathan L. Reed on May 4, 1957, in Decatur. She was a member of New Beginnings Church of God. In the 1970’s she worked for the post office in Warrensburg. Later she co-owned Olive’s Garden of Angels Inspiration Gift Shop. She touched so many lives that came in and out of her shop. She will be greatly missed by so many that knew her.
Trudy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Nathan; two daughters, Leisa (Lynn) Shaffer of Pekin and Michelle (Antonio) Torres of Flanders, NJ; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Blake) Moyer, Brooke (Eric Lanning) Shaffer, Natalie (Ryan) Propst and Nathan Torres; three great-grandchildren, Abigail Moyer, Collin Moyer and Jayden Propst; two brothers, Paul R (Sandy) Meredith of Ormond Beach, FL and Larry Meredith of Bethany; two sisters, Darlene Stobaugh of Decatur and Karla (Arla) Thomas of Decatur; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Nathan Reed; one brother, Daniel Meredith; and two sisters, Marlene Bradford and Carol Miller.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Gertrude Elizabeth Reed will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at New Beginnings Church of God. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at New Beginnings Church of God. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
