DECATUR- Gladys M. Hood, 85 of Decatur, passed away at 12:40 pm Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
Services to celebrate Gladys' life will be held at 11 am Friday, May 14, 2010 in the Chapel of Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor Art Ohlwine. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family request casual attire for services. Interment with the 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in the Veteran Section of Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. Gladys was born on May 25, 1924 in Lafayette, TN. a daughter of Pat and Mary Alice (Curtis) Swindle. Gladys was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and she retired as a clerk at Eisner's. She loved to grow beautiful flowers and vegetables in her garden, travel and fish. Gladys loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She married Charles C. Hood on July 27, 1941 in St. Charles, MO. He passed away on October 30, 1991.
She leaves behind her loving family that includes her sons- Steve Hood of Decatur, Michael 'Al' Hood and wife Donna of Warrensburg and Martin Hood and wife Patricia of Decatur, eight grandchildren- Kevin Hood, Tracy Hood, Brad Hood, Jeff Hood, Craig Hood, Johnny Martin, Tammy Renee and Michael Allen, step-grandson- Ted Wright and fifteen great grandchildren.
She was greeted in Heaven by her parents, husband, son- Johnny and her grandson- Brad Allen Hood, sister- Cecil Batchhelder and daughter-in-law- Patty Hood.
