Glen Eldon Hassebrock's Obituary
Glen Eldon Hassebrock, 94, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in Decatur, IL.
He was born in Mt. Pulaski, IL, on July 22, 1931, to the late John William Hassebrock and Anna Margaret Maxheimer Hassebrock.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 105, having served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951-1953. While stationed in England Glen met Muriel G. True to his word, the pair were wed on December 27, 1952, and spent the next 64 years together until she preceded him in death on May 13, 2016.
When he returned home, Glen started a 40-year career as a barber, eventually starting his own business, Hassebrock Barber Shop. He enjoyed gardening under his wife’s watchful eye and traveling at her side once he had retired. More than anything else, he will be remembered as a man who took care of his family.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by: six brothers, Harold Hassebrock, John Hassebrock, Loren Hassebrock, Vernon Hassebrock, Melvin Hassebrock, and Ray Hassebrock; and four sisters, Anna Roos, Alma Stoll, Ethel Hein, and Lois Ruwe.
Those surviving include: children, Glen Hassebrock Jr and Muriel Howe; sisters-in-law, Shirley Clarke and Dolly Hassebrock; grandchildren, Andrew Blackburn, Andrea Hackney, and three step-grandchildren; greatgrandchild, Kierstin Hackney and ten step-greatgrandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Glen Hassebrock will take place from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral will be held at 11:00 am the following day, Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1960 E Johns Avenue, Decatur IL, 62521.
